How it Works

What is Speech Therapy?

Speech therapy is the assessment, management, and prevention of communication and swallowing disorders. Communication encompasses speech, language, and non-verbal communication.

What to expect

After our initial chat, an assessment will be scheduled. An assessment lasts one hour and you will receive 30 minutes of oral feedback and discussion as well as a report detailing the findings.

Therapy will proceed after the assessment with weekly feedback and homework.

Every 6 months a progress report will be completed and a reassessment if required.

For how long will therapy be needed?

This depends on the severity of the diagnosis, how frequently therapy is given, the patient's age, any underlying medical conditions, and how dedicated the patient and their support network are to at-home practice and homework.

What does a session entail?

For your child, speech therapy may take place in a classroom, small group, or one-on-one setting, depending on your child’s needs and difficulties

During the session we may:

  • Interact through talking and playing, and using books, pictures other objects as part of the language intervention to help stimulate language development.

  • Use games and board games to make the sessions fun and entertaining while achieving the goal of the session through play.

  • Provide strategies and homework for you and your child to continue the therapy at home.

Language Enrichment & Tutoring

The Language Enrichment & Tutoring classes offers specialised, sessions tailored to enhance each child's understanding and mastery of classroom concepts. These classes aims to ensure that students fully comprehend what transpires in their daily classes.

Significant emphasis is placed on fostering essential language skills, including writing, grammar, and vocabulary. Students engage in stimulating, personalised activities designed to boost their comprehension and application of language. Our integrative approach connects the material covered in these sessions to their regular classroom content, thereby creating a comprehensive learning experience that enhances understanding and retention. Importantly, these classes also address the challenges associated with mixed language use, a factor that can significantly impact academic performance. Thus, these classes serve as a transformative journey towards improved language proficiency and academic empowerment.

These classes occur in groups of 4. Please note these classes are not therapy and as such cannot be claimed from your medical aid.
